My Walk in the Woods

Posted by basicpoke on March 28, 2009

I recently found a neat puzzle cache in Mohawk Park in Tulsa–Simply Geometry #2: The Emerald Triangle (GC1MVN2) by The OxFoxes.  Some math is required, which are the kinds of puzzles I like.  The terrain is difficult out there, especially in the summer, so if you are looking for a Park-And-Grab, this ain’t it.  I shot a couple of videos on my way to the cache.  I think something was chasing me.  My log follows:

March 21, 2009

Well well well, I found it. I crossed the bridge on the way in, disturbed a couple of young folks smooching on the bridge. From there I tried to find a clever way to the cache but only encountered deep woods and swamp. I retreated and finally made it to ground zero. Lots of good hiding places but no cache to be found so I called my wife to read the cache page. Why didn’t I study it more carefully or bring it with me, good question. With clues from her I quickly found the cache and was happy. Bad news–After sitting on the ground near the cache, I pulled about 10 ticks from my jeans and 10 more from my backpack. I left Rin Tin Tin travel bug, so the container is completely full & I’m not kidding. Took cool orange flashlight keychain. On the way out I found a short cut. Thanks ‘The Oxfoxes’ for a fun one. Looking forward to more. See pics.

TAG “Geocaching 201″ a Big Hit

Posted by okiepaladin on March 21, 2009

GSAK demonstration
Tulsa Area Geocachers spent a rare 5 hours inside today, and without a meal!  The Community Center at LaFortune Park sponsored a beginning Geocaching class from noon to 2pm.  Captain Crash and Los Traviesos led an eager group of “Newbies” on the Who, What, Where and How of Geocaching, ending with a search of the grounds for some sample temperary caches.  At 2pm Tag held their Monthly Meeting.  Discussion covered many ideas for upcoming events.  Everyone is looking forward to Spring Fling April 18th and 19th at Foss Lake.  May 2nd will be busy with a CITO event with Pot Luck being planned along with a possible WWFM V (World Wide Flash Mob) event the same day.  A Fall Fest Committee is forming, those interested should contact Captain Crash.  The location will be officially announced at Spring Fling.  Everyone who is making plans to participate in the World Geo-Gathering in July is encouraged to go to the site and sign up to volunteer somewhere.

TAG March Meeting

Lots of Learning

The main event of the meeting was a “Geocaching 201″ class led by OkiePaladin, centering on paperless caching trechniques.  A “How I do it” for Bookmarks, Pocket Queries, Map printing and GSAK Basics.  Everyone picked up a tip or two and got some questions answered.  We had to wrap up before they locked the doors, with a lot of more information still to share.  Hopefully we’ll have more informative classes like this in the future.  While some were learning a few cachers were sneaking in and out to find “The Eagle” traveling cache.  Nightcrawler made a special trip over form OK City and hid it outside durring the meeting.   Before the group broke up it had been found and re-hidded at least a half-dozen times.  Where is it now?  Put a watch on GCA87C to find out.  I think I saw it flying North.  It could land near Verdigris somewhere.

soonercacher34: “#1000th find! What better way to celebrate, than finding an awesome creation by one of our favorite cachers! Thank you for continuing to tell us all your wisdom, taking us to new adventures and getting our butts out of the house! “

Los Traviesos deeply contemplates #1000!

Posted by herkenham on March 18, 2009

Congratulations! Here is a snip from the log entry for Deep Thoughts and Contemplation (GCTQ3P) on February 8.

The temps today started out at 60 and worked it’s way up to 70. However, the wind made it feel much cooler and we even got some sprinkles as we crawled, jumped, and nearly cried at this cache. I know that I touched the container at least 15 times before I FINALLY did it right. I think it took us about an hour before we got it. I even tried Darkmoon’s hint. (Do the hokey pokey) Trust me THAT did NOT work. Although I’m sure it made everybody who saw us laugh.

Note: The photo was not taken during this particular cache find.

Congratulations to nebain for milestone #1000 !

The find was "A Rock In A Strange Place" on March 7. Here is the log entry:

I found the weird rock, turned it over, and ANTS were running EVERYWHERE! It was like something from a nightmare. I threw the rock down and I could just feel them crawling all over me. By the way, I really hate ants! Live2teach went on defense while I opened the container to sign my name to my 1000th find. I will definitely remember this cache for a while, both as my 1000th and because of how much the ants freaked me out.

Note: This photo is from a different cache find.

Welcome Back to the Oklahoma Geocaching Blog

Posted by herkenham on March 16, 2009

Our blog has been down for a considerable amount of time.  It is maintained by volunteers with full time jobs, and unfortunately, life sometimes gets in the way of the things that we want to do.

The previous blog installation was infected on the okgeocaching.net server by a trojan.  We took the site down as soon as the trojan was detected, and we kept the site offline until it could be brought back online safely.  The safety of your personal information is our highest concern.  This trojan was not of a type that was able to infect your personal computer.  The only infection was on our server.  If you are interested in the specific trojan that was detected on the previous blog installation, click here for the details.

We have reinstalled this blog from scratch to eliminate the trojan, and we will do our level best to do everything within our power to make sure the site stays up and running, and stays clean.  We recommend that you always run your computer with a good virus and trojan checker installed.  Thank you for your patience and understanding during trying times.
